Ramagundam is a city and municipal corporation in Peddapalli district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the most populous city in the district and falls under the Peddapalli revenue division. It is located on the banks of the Godavari river.
The city's name derives from a combination of two words, Rama and Gundam. A famous temple of the Hindu god Lord Rama is situated in the old part of the city, where as Gundam means ""water springs"" are present. It is in belief that Lord Rama along with Seetha moved by the hills of Old Ramagundam because of their foot steps the ""gundam"" or water springs are formed which will be filled with water throughout the year.
