About Kanigiri

Kanigiri is a census town in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of kanigiri mandal in Kandukur revenue division.

The name is a vernacular transformation of Kanakagiri (Kanaka = gold and Giri = Hill). In olden times it was said that the town adjoining the hill was called Kanakapatnam.
