When is Bhai Dooj in 2019?

Bhai Dooj is a special day of the year for most brothers and sisters. The origin of this special day is traced back to two separate mythological stories. One of the stories state that Lord Krishna visited his sister Subhadra after defeating the notorious demon Narakashur and she had welcomed him with a gala celebration. The other said that Lora Yama had visited his sister Yamuna on the day following Diwali. Hence the tradition of visiting a sister and celebrating this lovely relationship on this day came into being.

Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the Ditiya (2nd day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) in the Hindu month of Kartik (October - November). For its date, this day is also known as Bhratri Dwitiya in some places in India. In 2019, This auspicious day is to be celebrated on Tuesday, the 29th of October. Make the most of this beautiful festival to bond with your brother/sister.
