When is Navatri

Navratri is a Hindu nine night festival worshipped in the honour of nine forms of Shakti/Devi. Navaratri begins on the first day of Ashwina. The tenth day after nine nights is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or Dashera, celebrates the victory of lord Rama over Ravana. Its is celebrated with lots of vigor and enthusiasm by the Hindus twice a year - in March-April (as Chaitra Navratri) and in September-October by the Hindus. While the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated as Ram Navami, the festival celebrated in September-October commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. The articles in this chapter discusses about when is Navratri.
